Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Continuously variable transmission

WARNING

Never shift the Subaru Ascent transmission from "P" or "N" into "D" or "R" while pressing the accelerator pedal. This can cause sudden and uncontrolled vehicle movement.

CAUTION

• Follow these precautions when operating the Subaru Ascent transmission.

  Failure to do so may result in transmission damage or unsafe driving conditions.

  • Always bring the Subaru Ascent to a complete stop before shifting into "P" or "R".
  • Do not shift between "D" and "R" until the vehicle has fully stopped.
• Avoid revving the Subaru Ascent engine for more than 5 seconds while the brake is applied and the transmission is in any position other than "P" or "N", as this may overheat the transmission fluid.
• Never allow the Subaru Ascent to roll in a direction opposite to the selected gear.

  This may lead to unexpected behavior or mechanical failure.

  • Do not let the vehicle roll backward while in a forward gear.
  • Do not allow forward movement while the transmission is set to "R".
• When parking the Subaru Ascent, always apply the parking brake firmly before shifting into the "P" position.

  Avoid leaving the vehicle parked in other gear positions, as this may lead to battery discharge over time.
