Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Windshield washer fluid

Subaru Ascent windshield washer fluid reservoir location under hood

When the windshield washer fluid level in your Subaru Ascent becomes low, the dedicated warning indicator will illuminate on the instrument panel. This alert signals that the washer fluid reservoir requires immediate attention to maintain clear visibility while driving.

As soon as this warning appears, promptly refill the washer fluid to ensure the windshield cleaning system of your Subaru Ascent continues to operate effectively in all weather conditions.

Adding the windshield washer fluid

CAUTION

Never substitute engine coolant for washer fluid in your Subaru Ascent, as it may damage painted surfaces and compromise the integrity of the washer system.

Subaru Ascent adding windshield washer fluid through filler cap into reservoir tank

To refill the washer fluid, open the hood of your Subaru Ascent, remove the washer reservoir filler cap, and carefully pour the appropriate washer fluid into the tank. Avoid overfilling and ensure the cap is securely reinstalled after refilling.

Windshield washer fluid

Always use a dedicated windshield washer fluid formulated for automotive use in your Subaru Ascent. In situations where washer fluid is not immediately available, clean water may be used temporarily.

However, in colder climates where temperatures can drop below freezing, it is essential to use a washer fluid with antifreeze properties. This prevents the fluid from freezing inside the reservoir, lines, or nozzles, ensuring reliable operation of the system.

If you switch to a washer fluid with a different concentration than previously used, operate the washer system for a short period to flush out the old fluid from the lines. This helps prevent mixing solutions that may not provide adequate freeze protection.

CAUTION

Regular maintenance of the windshield washer system in your Subaru Ascent ensures clear visibility, especially during adverse weather conditions, contributing to safer and more confident driving.
