Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Unlock using PIN Code Access

In the Subaru Ascent, when all doors including the rear gate are securely locked, it is possible to unlock the driver's door without using the key fob by utilizing the convenient PIN Code Access feature via the rear lock button.

1. Rear lock button

NOTE

The Subaru Ascent PIN Code Access function is especially useful if the key fob is accidentally locked inside the vehicle. For enhanced security, it is strongly recommended to register a unique 5-digit PIN code.

Registration for a PIN code

NOTE

Press the " " button within 30 seconds after completing step 6 to proceed to the registration stage. If the " " button is not pressed within this time frame, the Subaru Ascent PIN code registration process will be canceled automatically.

NOTE

• To input the number "0" in the Subaru Ascent PIN code, press the rear lock button ten times consecutively.
• Regularly update your Subaru Ascent PIN code to improve vehicle security and reduce the risk of unauthorized access.
• If you temporarily hand over your Subaru Ascent to another driver, verify that the PIN code has not been changed or deleted. If necessary, register a new secure PIN code.
• If an error occurs during registration, press either the " " or " " button on the access key fob and restart the procedure.
• For security reasons, the Subaru Ascent system does not allow simple sequences such as "00000" or "12345" to be used as a PIN code.
• Avoid predictable number combinations like license plate numbers or repetitive sequences (e.g., "11122" or "12121"), as they increase theft risk.
• Entering "22222" will delete the currently stored PIN code. A new PIN must be registered before the Subaru Ascent can be unlocked using PIN Code Access again.

  After registering a new PIN, always verify its functionality.

• The Subaru Ascent PIN code cannot be deleted while the keyless access system is disabled.
• Reregister the PIN code if you forget it or wish to change it for security reasons.

Unlocking

To unlock your Subaru Ascent using PIN Code Access, perform the same sequence of inputs defined during registration.

NOTE

• PIN Code Access will not function in the following situations:
  • When the Subaru Ascent access key fob is within the operating range.
  • When the ignition switch is in the "ACC" or "ON" position.
• If an incorrect input is made, wait at least 5 seconds before retrying the unlocking process.
• For security purposes, if an incorrect PIN is entered five consecutive times, the Subaru Ascent system will emit an alert sound and temporarily disable PIN Code Access for approximately 5 minutes.
