Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: User recognition function

WARNING

Always complete registration, retrieval, or deletion of seat position and outside mirror angle settings before starting to drive the Subaru Ascent. Attempting to adjust or manage these personalized settings while the vehicle is in motion can distract the driver and significantly increase the risk of an accident.

In the Subaru Ascent, once a driver profile is registered, the system enables automatic recall of multiple personalized settings, ensuring a tailored driving environment every time the recognized user enters the vehicle.

Driver position personalization

The Subaru Ascent restores the previously saved seat position and exterior mirror alignment, allowing the driver to immediately benefit from an optimal and familiar driving posture.

The system also recalls the customized reverse tilt-down angle of the outside mirrors, improving rear visibility during parking maneuvers.

Meter personalization

When entering the Subaru Ascent, the instrument cluster automatically displays the last-selected screen used by the driver, maintaining continuity and convenience.

Center information display personalization

The central display in the Subaru Ascent returns to the user’s preferred interface layout, exactly as it was configured before the previous drive ended.

This feature allows the Subaru Ascent to present personalized fuel economy data, reflecting the driving history of the recognized user.

Climate control personalization

The Subaru Ascent retrieves previously selected climate preferences, including temperature, airflow direction, and ventilation intensity, ensuring immediate comfort without additional adjustments.

NOTE

If a recognized user exits the Subaru Ascent while the Max A/C mode is active and the engine is turned off, the system intelligently stores the climate configuration that was set before Max A/C mode was engaged, preserving the original preference.

Driver Monitoring System ON/OFF status

The Subaru Ascent also remembers whether the Driver Monitoring System was enabled or disabled, restoring the same state when the user returns to the vehicle.

Changing the personalization settings

*: Even if the Driver Monitoring System in the Subaru Ascent is turned OFF, it continues to retain the last known configuration and settings prior to deactivation, including screen selections and user adjustments.

Inattentive/drowsy driving warning

While driving, the Subaru Ascent Driver Monitoring System continuously evaluates driver attention and alertness, issuing warnings if signs of distraction or fatigue are detected.

When such a condition is identified, the system activates an audible alert and displays a warning message on the instrument panel to prompt the driver to refocus.

NOTE

Inattentive driving warning

If the Subaru Ascent determines that the driver’s attention has significantly decreased, it immediately issues a warning through both visual and audible signals.

This alert appears on the combination meter display, helping the driver quickly regain focus and maintain safe driving conditions.

When the EyeSight system detects a vehicle or obstacle ahead, the Subaru Ascent may trigger the inattentive warning earlier than usual to enhance safety.

Refer to the Owner’s Manual supplement for the EyeSight system for more detailed information.

Drowsy driving warning

The Subaru Ascent evaluates potential driver fatigue by analyzing eyelid movement and duration of eye closure. If signs of drowsiness are detected, the system activates an alert to encourage the driver to take a break.

This warning includes both a buzzer and a notification on the display, helping prevent dangerous situations caused by reduced alertness.

Additional insight: The Subaru Ascent Driver Monitoring System combines personalization and safety into one cohesive system. By recognizing individual drivers and monitoring attentiveness in real time, it not only enhances comfort but also plays a critical role in reducing the risk of fatigue-related incidents on the road.
