Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Seatbelt pretensioners

The Subaru Ascent is equipped with advanced seatbelt pretensioner systems that significantly enhance occupant protection in the event of a collision. These systems are designed to instantly tighten the seatbelt, reducing slack and ensuring that passengers are securely restrained at the moment of impact.

The following seatbelts in the Subaru Ascent are equipped with pretensioners.

• Driver's seatbelt
• Front passenger's seatbelt
• Second-row seatbelts (window-sides)

The Subaru Ascent pretensioners are activated by multiple safety sensors integrated into the vehicle.

• Front impact sensors
• Side impact sensors
• Rollover sensor

WARNING

• To achieve maximum protection in the Subaru Ascent, all occupants must sit upright with their seatbelts properly fastened at all times.

  Doing so may cause accidental deployment or system failure, which could lead to serious injury. The Subaru Ascent pretensioner system contains no user-serviceable parts and must only be serviced by an authorized SUBARU dealer.

• When disposing of seatbelt components or scrapping a Subaru Ascent vehicle after a collision, always consult a SUBARU dealer for proper handling of pretensioner systems.

NOTE

• Seatbelt pretensioners in the Subaru Ascent are not designed to activate during minor impacts or rear-end collisions.
• The pretensioner system is a single-use safety feature. Once activated, the seatbelt retractor assemblies must be replaced by an authorized SUBARU dealer using genuine Subaru Ascent parts.
• If a seatbelt equipped with a pretensioner cannot be pulled out or retracted, it may indicate activation or malfunction. Contact your SUBARU dealer immediately.
• If any damage is observed in the retractor assembly or surrounding area, have the Subaru Ascent inspected as soon as possible.
• When selling your Subaru Ascent, inform the new owner that the vehicle is equipped with seatbelt pretensioners and provide guidance on their operation.
