Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: System monitors

The Subaru Ascent is equipped with a continuous diagnostic monitoring system that checks the readiness and functionality of the seatbelt pretensioners whenever the ignition switch is in the "ON" position.

The pretensioner system shares its control unit with the SRS airbag system. Therefore, if a malfunction occurs in the Subaru Ascent seatbelt pretensioner system, the SRS airbag warning light will illuminate on the instrument panel.

System servicing

WARNING

• When disposing of a Subaru Ascent seatbelt retractor assembly or scrapping a vehicle after a collision, always consult an authorized SUBARU dealer to ensure safe handling of pretensioner components.
• Do not tamper with or disconnect any wiring associated with the Subaru Ascent seatbelt pretensioner or SRS airbag systems.

  Improper handling may cause accidental deployment or system failure, potentially resulting in serious injury. Never use electrical testing devices on these circuits.

For exact locations of sensors and control modules in the Subaru Ascent, refer to the "Components" section.

If repairs or servicing are required near these areas or around seatbelt retractors, ensure that all work is performed exclusively by an authorized SUBARU dealer.

NOTE

If the Subaru Ascent experiences damage to the front or side structure during an accident and the pretensioners do not activate, contact your SUBARU dealer immediately for inspection and diagnostics.

Precautions against vehicle modification

Before installing any aftermarket accessories or making modifications to your Subaru Ascent, always consult an authorized SUBARU dealer to ensure compatibility with safety systems.

CAUTION

Avoid performing any of the following modifications, as they may interfere with the proper operation of the Subaru Ascent seatbelt pretensioner system.

• Installing non-genuine accessories such as bull bars, winches, snow plows, or skid plates on the front end of the Subaru Ascent.
• Modifying the suspension system or altering the front-end structure of the vehicle.
• Using tires that differ in size or construction from those specified on the vehicle placard or in the Subaru Ascent Owner’s Manual.
