Power steering warning light

Power steering system features
The Subaru Ascent is equipped with a modern electric power steering system designed to provide precise control, smooth handling, and improved efficiency. When the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position, the power steering warning light briefly illuminates on the instrument cluster to confirm that the system is functioning correctly. After the Subaru Ascent engine starts, the light turns off, indicating that steering assistance is fully active and operating normally.
CAUTION
If the power steering warning light remains illuminated while driving the Subaru Ascent, steering effort may increase significantly. In this situation, operate the vehicle with caution and proceed carefully to the nearest SUBARU dealer for inspection.
NOTE
Under certain driving conditions, the Subaru Ascent power steering system may temporarily reduce assistance to protect internal components such as the control unit and electric motor from overheating.
During these situations, the Subaru Ascent steering wheel may feel heavier than usual. This is a normal protective function and not a malfunction. Once the system cools down, normal steering assistance will be restored automatically. However, consistently operating the steering system under extreme conditions may eventually lead to reduced performance or potential system issues.
