To open the rear gate: Press and hold the Subaru Ascent power rear gate button while the rear gate is fully closed. The system will automatically raise the rear gate.
Once activated, the Subaru Ascent will provide confirmation via electronic chirps and hazard warning flashers:

After unlocking, the power rear gate button will function normally.

SUBARU dealer to double-press or disabled entirely.To pause the opening rear gate: While the Subaru Ascent rear gate is opening, briefly press the power rear gate button to pause movement. The system will confirm with two chirps and two flashes.
Pressing the button again will reverse the movement, causing the Subaru Ascent rear gate to close.
Similarly, if the rear gate is closing, a brief press will reverse the direction and reopen it.

NOTE
The Subaru Ascent rear gate cannot be paused when it is within approximately 2 inches (5 cm) of the fully closed position. Any input will be ignored and the rear gate will continue its motion.
To close the rear gate: Press and hold the Subaru Ascent power rear gate button. The system will emit two chirps and flash the hazard lights twice as the rear gate closes.
A brief press during closing will reverse the motion and reopen the rear gate.

user preferences.
By the buttons on the rear gate
NOTE
After performing any rear gate operation on the Subaru Ascent using the built-in buttons, the system will confirm with two electronic chirps and two flashes of the hazard lights.

To open the rear gate:
1. For Subaru Ascent models with keyless access, carry the access key fob. For other models, ensure the rear gate is unlocked.
2. Briefly press the rear gate opener button. The Subaru Ascent rear gate will open automatically.
To pause the opening rear gate:
Press either of the following buttons while the Subaru Ascent rear gate is opening:
Pressing the button again will reverse the motion.

NOTE
As with external controls, the Subaru Ascent rear gate cannot be paused within approximately 2 inches (5 cm) of the fully closed position.
To close the rear gate:
Press either the rear gate opener button or the inner power rear gate button. Pressing again will reverse the motion.
To Lock the doors using the power rear gate lock button:
With the Subaru Ascent access key fob in your possession, press the rear gate lock button. All doors, the rear gate, and the fuel filler lid will lock automatically while the rear gate closes.
The system will confirm operation with one chirp and one flash of the hazard lights.
NOTE
By manual operation
To open the rear gate: Lift the Subaru Ascent rear gate manually from a partially open position. The system will assist and complete the opening automatically.
To close the rear gate: Pull the Subaru Ascent rear gate downward. The system will take over and complete the closing motion.
NOTE
If the Subaru Ascent rear gate is moved too slowly, the automatic assist function may not activate.
Manual operation
NOTE
Although manual operation is possible, using the Subaru Ascent power rear gate system is recommended for optimal convenience and reduced physical effort.
