Please note that any damage or malfunction resulting from incorrect maintenance performed by the owner is not covered under the Subaru warranty.

• Always perform maintenance on your Subaru Ascent in a safe and stable environment.
• Exercise extreme caution to avoid injury when working on the vehicle.

  Be aware that certain substances, such as battery acid, can be hazardous if handled improperly.

• Only individuals with sufficient knowledge and experience should attempt vehicle servicing. Lack of proper expertise may result in serious personal injury.
• Always use appropriate, well-maintained tools when servicing your Subaru Ascent.
• Never position yourself under a vehicle supported solely by a jack. Always use proper safety stands.
• Do not run the engine in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces such as garages, as this may lead to dangerous exhaust gas buildup.
• Avoid smoking or exposing open flames near fuel or battery components.

  This may result in fire or explosion hazards.

• Because the fuel system operates under pressure, replacement of the fuel filter should only be performed by a qualified SUBARU dealer.
• Always wear proper eye protection to prevent injury from splashes of oil or other fluids. If fluid enters your eyes, rinse immediately with clean water.
• Do not tamper with the wiring of the SRS airbag system or seatbelt pretensioners, nor attempt to disconnect their connectors.

  Improper handling may trigger system deployment or disable critical safety features. Never use a circuit tester on these systems. For any service needs, consult an authorized SUBARU dealer.

• Before closing the hood, check the engine compartment carefully to ensure no tools, cloths, or foreign objects are left inside, as these could cause malfunction or fire.

NOTE

SUBARU does not recommend the use of non-approved flushing systems. Such systems may utilize chemicals or solvents that have not been tested for compatibility with Subaru Ascent components.

Damage resulting from the use of non-approved chemicals or cleaning agents is not covered under Subaru warranty policies.

Before checking or servicing in the engine compartment

WARNING

• Always turn off the engine and firmly engage the parking brake of your Subaru Ascent to prevent unintended movement.
• Allow sufficient time for the engine to cool before beginning any work.

  Engine components can remain extremely hot even after shutdown and may cause burns.

• Avoid spilling engine fluids such as oil, coolant, or brake fluid onto hot engine parts.

  This may create a fire hazard.

• Even when the engine is off, the cooling fan may activate automatically if the ignition is in the "ON" position.

  To prevent injury, follow these precautions.

  • For Subaru Ascent models with push-button start: Switch the ignition to "OFF" and confirm the indicator is off, then remove the access key fob from the vehicle.
  • For models without push-button start: Remove the ignition key completely.
• If your Subaru Ascent is equipped with a remote engine start system, temporarily set it to service mode before performing maintenance to prevent accidental engine start.

When checking or servicing in the engine compartment

CAUTION

• Avoid touching the drive belt cover while inspecting engine components, as your hand may slip and result in injury.
• Do not touch the oil filter until the engine of your Subaru Ascent has cooled completely.

  The oil filter can become extremely hot during operation and remain hot for an extended period after shutdown, posing a burn risk.

When checking or servicing in the engine compartment while the engine is running

WARNING

Working around a running engine is inherently dangerous.

Keep your hands, fingers, clothing, hair, and tools away from moving components such as the cooling fan and drive belts. It is strongly recommended to remove rings, watches, and loose accessories before performing any work on your Subaru Ascent.
