WARNING
It is not a substitute for proper parking procedures. Always engage the parking brake and confirm the vehicle remains stationary before releasing the brake pedal.
This will deactivate the system and may result in unintended vehicle movement.
The Hill start assist system in the Subaru Ascent is designed to simplify starting on slopes by temporarily maintaining braking force after the brake pedal is released.

When the Subaru Ascent is stopped with the brake pedal depressed, the Hill start assist system activates automatically.
The system maintains braking force for approximately 2 seconds after the brake pedal is released, allowing the driver to transition smoothly to the accelerator without the vehicle rolling.
If the retained braking force is insufficient, simply press the brake pedal again to maintain control of the Subaru Ascent.
The Hill start assist system may not activate on very slight inclines. Additionally, it will not operate under the following conditions.

While using the Hill start assist system in the Subaru Ascent, you may feel a slight braking effect even after releasing the brake pedal. This is normal system behavior.
CAUTION
The Hill start assist system may not provide enough braking force in demanding situations, such as when towing or on steep gradients.
Always remain attentive and be prepared to apply additional braking if necessary.
NOTE
When transitioning from reverse to forward motion, a slight jolt may be felt in the Subaru Ascent. This is a normal characteristic of the system and does not indicate a malfunction.
The Subaru Ascent integrates these parking and hill assist features to enhance driver confidence and safety, but correct usage and awareness of road conditions remain essential for optimal vehicle control.
