CAUTION
Engine oil consumption
During normal operation, your Subaru Ascent engine will consume a certain amount of oil. This is a natural process, and the rate of consumption may vary depending on several influencing factors such as driving habits, environmental conditions, and engine load.
Oil consumption may increase under the following conditions, and in such cases, periodic topping up between scheduled maintenance intervals may be necessary.
Under these or similar driving conditions, it is advisable to check the engine oil level of your Subaru Ascent at least every second refueling stop and consider more frequent oil changes. Oil consumption may vary significantly between drivers even when using the same vehicle. If consumption appears unusually high, consult your authorized SUBARU dealer for a professional evaluation under controlled conditions.
Locations of the oil level gauge, oil filler cap and oil filter

Checking the oil level
1. Park your Subaru Ascent on a flat and level surface, then turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK"/"OFF" position. If the engine has just been turned off, wait at least 5 minutes to allow the oil to drain back into the oil pan for an accurate reading.
CAUTION
If the oil level gauge resists removal, gently twist it back and forth before pulling it out.
Forcing the gauge may result in sudden release and potential injury.
2. Remove the oil level gauge, wipe it clean with a cloth, and reinsert it fully into its tube.

3. Ensure that the dipstick is properly seated all the way down to obtain an accurate oil level reading.

4. Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level. The oil should be between the "LOW" and "FULL" marks. If it is near or below the low mark, add the appropriate oil for your Subaru Ascent gradually, rechecking the level to avoid overfilling.
Maintaining the correct engine oil level is essential for the long-term durability, efficiency, and performance of your Subaru Ascent, ensuring smooth operation under all driving conditions.
5. Inspect the oil level on both sides of the dipstick in your Subaru Ascent. Always determine the correct oil level based on the lower reading of the two sides. If the level is below the "LOW" mark, add engine oil gradually until it reaches the "FULL" level.
CAUTION
To add engine oil to your Subaru Ascent, remove the oil filler cap and slowly pour the oil through the filler opening. Add the oil in small amounts, checking the level with the dipstick after each addition to ensure accuracy and prevent overfilling.
NOTE
Changing the oil and oil filter
Engine oil and oil filter replacement for your Subaru Ascent should be carried out according to the intervals specified in the "Warranty and Maintenance Booklet". Adhering to this schedule is essential for maintaining engine efficiency and longevity.
However, under more demanding driving conditions—such as frequent short trips, operation on dusty roads, or driving in extremely cold climates—more frequent oil and filter changes are strongly recommended to protect the engine of your Subaru Ascent.
NOTE
Recommended grade and viscosity
CAUTION
Only use engine oil that meets the specified grade and viscosity requirements for your Subaru Ascent to ensure optimal performance and protection.
NOTE
The viscosity of engine oil plays a crucial role in fuel efficiency and engine protection. Lower-viscosity oils can improve fuel economy, while higher-viscosity oils may be more suitable in hot climates to maintain proper lubrication under increased thermal stress.
Synthetic oil
For best results, it is recommended to use high-quality synthetic engine oil in your Subaru Ascent that meets the same specifications required for conventional oil. Synthetic oil provides enhanced protection, improved performance, and better resistance to extreme temperatures.
When selecting synthetic oil, ensure it matches the classification, viscosity, and grade specified in this Owner’s Manual. Always follow the recommended oil change intervals outlined in the "Warranty and Maintenance Booklet" to maintain engine health.
NOTE
Synthetic oil with the recommended specifications is the preferred choice for achieving maximum engine performance and durability in your Subaru Ascent. However, if synthetic oil is not available, conventional oil of the appropriate grade may be used as an alternative.
Regular monitoring and правильне обслуговування engine oil in your Subaru Ascent will significantly contribute to long-term reliability, improved efficiency, and overall engine protection.
