Vehicle Dynamics Control warning light

CAUTION

In the Subaru Ascent, the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system relies on the ABS through a shared electrical circuit. If the ABS system becomes inoperative for any reason, the VDC system will also lose its ability to provide ABS-related control functions. As a result, both systems may become disabled, and the warning light will illuminate to alert the driver.

Even though the Vehicle Dynamics Control system and ABS may be inactive in this condition, the standard braking system of the Subaru Ascent will continue to function. While it is still possible to drive the vehicle, extra caution is required. It is strongly recommended to have the Subaru Ascent inspected by an authorized SUBARU dealer as soon as possible to restore full system capability.

NOTE

• If the electrical circuit of the Vehicle Dynamics Control system itself malfunctions in the Subaru Ascent, only the VDC warning light will illuminate. In this case, the ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) remains fully operational and continues to support safe braking performance.
• The warning light may also illuminate if there is an issue within the electronic control system that manages both the ABS and Vehicle Dynamics Control systems in the Subaru Ascent.
• If the Vehicle Dynamics Control warning light, ABS warning light, and brake system warning light illuminate simultaneously, this typically indicates a malfunction in the Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) system. Refer to the relevant section for more details regarding EBD system warnings in the Subaru Ascent.

The Vehicle Dynamics Control system in the Subaru Ascent may be considered inoperative under any of the following conditions. Immediate inspection by a SUBARU dealer is recommended.

• The warning light does not illuminate when the ignition switch of the Subaru Ascent is turned to the "ON" position.
• The warning light illuminates while the vehicle is being driven.

NOTE

If the warning light behavior in your Subaru Ascent matches the following conditions, the system may still be functioning normally.

• The warning light illuminates when the ignition is switched to "ON" and turns off approximately 2 seconds after the engine starts.
• The warning light briefly illuminates immediately after engine start and then turns off.
• The warning light comes on after engine start but turns off once the Subaru Ascent begins moving.
• The warning light illuminates during driving but turns off quickly and remains off.
• The warning light illuminates after an engine stall and remains on after restart, but turns off once the Subaru Ascent starts moving again.

Vehicle Dynamics Control operation indicator light

In the Subaru Ascent, the Vehicle Dynamics Control operation indicator light flashes whenever the system actively intervenes to maintain stability. This includes situations where skid suppression or traction control functions are engaged, helping the vehicle maintain grip and directional control under challenging driving conditions.

NOTE

• The indicator light in the Subaru Ascent may remain illuminated for a short time after engine start, particularly in cold weather conditions. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.

  The light should turn off once the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

• The indicator light may also illuminate if the engine develops a fault and the CHECK ENGINE warning light/malfunction indicator light is activated.

The Vehicle Dynamics Control system in the Subaru Ascent may be malfunctioning under the following condition. Prompt inspection by a SUBARU dealer is advised.

• The indicator light does not turn off even after several minutes have passed since engine start and the engine has reached normal temperature.

Vehicle Dynamics Control OFF indicator light

The Vehicle Dynamics Control OFF indicator light in the Subaru Ascent illuminates when the driver manually disables the VDC system. In this mode, stability and traction assistance features are reduced, allowing for different driving behavior, such as when driving in deep snow or mud.

However, if this light behaves abnormally, it may indicate a malfunction within the system. The Vehicle Dynamics Control system in the Subaru Ascent should be checked immediately by a SUBARU dealer under the following conditions.

• The indicator light does not illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position.
• The indicator light does not turn off several seconds after the ignition has been switched to "ON".
