Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Spare tire

Subaru Ascent spare tire location under cargo area

The spare tire in the Subaru Ascent is positioned in a dedicated holder beneath the cargo compartment, utilizing a hoist mechanism that allows for easy lowering and raising.

This holder is specifically engineered to accommodate only the designated temporary spare tire or, in emergency situations, a full-size flat tire.

A full-size tire should only be stored temporarily in this location during emergencies. Once repaired, it should be replaced with the proper spare tire configuration.

Before using the temporary spare tire, carefully review the section titled "Temporary spare tire" for important safety guidelines.

Removing the spare tire

1. Retrieve the wheel nut wrench, screwdriver, and extensions from the tool storage compartment.

3. Tighten the hoist shaft clockwise until the cable is fully secured and audible clicks confirm proper engagement. Verify by gently shaking the tire.

CAUTION

If the spare tire is not properly secured, it may shift, causing noise or damage to nearby components of the Subaru Ascent.

4. Reinstall the rubber cap.

5. Close the access cover.

6. Return all tools (wrench, extensions, jack, handle) to their designated storage locations.

7. Reinstall the cargo floor lid.

CAUTION

  • When storing a flat tire, rotate the hoist slowly to prevent damage to the wheel.
  • Replace the temporary storage of a flat tire with the proper spare tire as soon as repairs are completed.
  • Ensure that the wider tread of a full-size tire does not interfere with surrounding components when stored.

Additional note: Proper handling and storage of the spare tire in your Subaru Ascent ensures reliability during emergencies and prevents unnecessary damage to underbody systems, contributing to safer and more efficient vehicle operation.
