Starting the engine
NOTE
Before activating the Subaru Ascent remote engine start system, ensure that all doors, the rear gate, and the hood are securely closed. If any opening is detected, the system will not initiate or may shut down automatically. For push-button start models, the vehicle must also be locked before activation.
The Subaru Ascent remote start function is triggered by pressing the fob button twice within 3 seconds. If the fob is within the system’s operating range and the request is successfully received, the following confirmation sequence will occur.
The Subaru Ascent system then verifies multiple safety conditions. If all parameters are satisfied, the engine will start within approximately 5 seconds. Once the engine has started, the system provides additional confirmation signals.
While the Subaru Ascent engine is running via remote start, several conditions remain active.
If the engine cranks but fails to start, or if it starts and stalls, the Subaru Ascent system will shut down and automatically attempt up to three additional restarts. If a malfunction is detected, the system will cancel further attempts to prevent damage.
Stopping the engine
To stop the Subaru Ascent engine remotely, press and hold the fob button for at least 3 seconds. The fob will flash and emit three beeps to confirm that the engine has stopped. If the signal is not received due to distance or interference, the fob will continue flashing periodically.
For safety, the Subaru Ascent remote engine start system will automatically shut off the engine after approximately 15 minutes of operation.
Remote start safety features
The Subaru Ascent remote start system includes multiple safety protections. The system will prevent starting or automatically shut down the engine if any of the following conditions occur.
If any door or the rear gate is opened during operation, the Subaru Ascent system will either prevent startup or immediately stop the engine (for non push-button models). In such cases, the horn will sound and the exterior lights will flash multiple times as a warning.
If the Subaru Ascent onboard systems detect a potential safety issue or malfunction, the engine will automatically shut down and the horn will sound three times.
NOTE
Remote start operation - fob confirmation
The Subaru Ascent remote starter fob is a two-way communication device that provides both visual and audible feedback. The LED backlight and internal buzzer indicate system status through specific patterns of flashes and beeps when the fob is within operational range.

The Subaru Ascent remote engine start system offers convenience and comfort, especially in extreme weather conditions, but it must always be used responsibly with full awareness of safety requirements and environmental considerations.
