Maintenance
When operating your Subaru Ascent in winter conditions, proper preparation is essential for safety and reliability. It is highly recommended to carry emergency supplies such as an ice scraper, sand for traction, warning flares, a compact shovel, and jumper cables to handle unexpected situations.
Inspect the battery and its terminals regularly. Low temperatures significantly reduce battery efficiency, so ensuring that the Subaru Ascent battery is in excellent condition is critical for reliable cold starts.
In extremely cold climates, starting the engine may require additional time. Always use engine oil with the correct viscosity rating for winter operation. Heavy or summer-grade oil can make starting your Subaru Ascent more difficult and may increase engine wear.
Prevent door locks from freezing by applying a suitable deicing solution or glycerin. If a door becomes frozen, avoid forcing it open. Instead, gently melt the ice using warm water and dry the area completely afterward to prevent refreezing.
Always use a windshield washer fluid designed for low temperatures that contains antifreeze properties. Avoid using engine coolant or other substitutes, as these can damage the paintwork of your Subaru Ascent.
If switching to a washer fluid with a different concentration, ensure that the previous fluid is flushed from the system by operating the washer for a short period. This helps prevent freezing in the lines and ensures proper operation during cold weather.
CAUTION
Before driving your vehicle
Before entering your Subaru Ascent, remove snow and ice from your footwear to prevent slipping on the pedals, which could lead to unsafe driving conditions.
While warming up the engine, ensure that all controls—including the accelerator and brake pedals—operate smoothly and without obstruction.
Remove accumulated snow and ice from wheel arches and under the fenders. Excess buildup can interfere with steering and suspension movement. During extended winter driving, periodically stop in a safe location to inspect these areas.
Parking in cold weather
WARNING
Accumulated snow around the Subaru Ascent can trap exhaust gases beneath the vehicle. Always keep the exhaust outlet and surrounding area clear when the engine is running to prevent dangerous carbon monoxide buildup.
CAUTION
When parking your Subaru Ascent for extended periods in winter conditions, follow these steps.
1. Shift the select lever to the "P" position.
2. Place wheel chocks or tire stops to prevent unintended vehicle movement.
Refueling in cold weather
To minimize moisture formation in the fuel system and prevent freezing, it is advisable to use a fuel antifreeze additive during winter operation.
Only use additives specifically designed for automotive fuel systems. For maximum effectiveness, refuel your Subaru Ascent when the tank reaches approximately half capacity.
If the vehicle will not be used for an extended period, keeping the fuel tank full helps reduce condensation and maintain system integrity.
Opening rear gate (models with power rear gate)
CAUTION
Before operating the power rear gate on your Subaru Ascent, ensure that there is no frost, ice, or snow between the tailgate and the body.
If ice is present, remove it carefully before activation. Forcing the rear gate while frozen can result in mechanical damage or system malfunction.
Additional note: Proper winter preparation and регулярний догляд за Subaru Ascent допомагають не лише уникнути технічних проблем, але й значно підвищують рівень безпеки під час руху в складних погодних умовах. Consistent winter maintenance ensures reliable operation and extends the lifespan of critical vehicle systems.
