Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Manual rear gate

The Subaru Ascent manual rear gate can be locked and unlocked using multiple integrated systems, providing flexibility and convenience for different situations.

To open:

  1. Unlock the Subaru Ascent rear gate using your preferred access method.
  2. Press and hold the rear gate opener button until the rear gate releases slightly.
  3. Firmly grasp the rear gate and lift it upward in a smooth, controlled motion.

NOTE

If the Subaru Ascent rear gate cannot be opened due to a discharged battery, system malfunction, or similar issue, it can be manually unlocked using the rear gate lock release lever. Refer to the dedicated emergency procedure section for details.

To close:

Carefully lower the Subaru Ascent rear gate and press down firmly until the latch securely engages.
