Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Initial illumination for system check

When the ignition switch of the Subaru Ascent is turned to the "ON" position, multiple warning and indicator lights illuminate briefly and then turn off. This built-in self-check confirms that the systems and indicator bulbs are functioning correctly.

To perform this system check, apply the parking brake and switch the ignition to the "ON" position. The following indicators will illuminate and then turn off after a few seconds or once the engine starts.

  Seatbelt warning light (The seatbelt warning light turns off only when the driver fastens the seatbelt.)

Front passenger's seatbelt warning light (The seatbelt warning light turns off only when the front seat passenger fastens the seatbelt.)

  Vehicle Dynamics Control warning light/ Vehicle Dynamics Control operation indicator light

  Vehicle Dynamics Control OFF indicator light

Electronic parking brake indicator light

If any of these indicators fail to illuminate during startup in the Subaru Ascent, it may indicate a burned-out bulb or a malfunction in the corresponding system.
