To restart the engine when involved in an accident
CAUTION
If your Subaru Ascent has been involved in an accident, carefully inspect the ground beneath the vehicle before attempting to restart the engine. If any fuel leakage is detected, do not start the engine under any circumstances, as this may indicate damage to the fuel system.
In such cases, immediately contact a qualified automotive service facility or your SUBARU dealer for professional assistance.
Your Subaru Ascent is equipped with a fuel pump shut-off system designed to stop fuel delivery in the event of a collision, reducing the risk of fuel leakage. However, depending on the nature and severity of the impact, this system may not always activate.
To restart the engine after the system has been triggered, follow the appropriate procedure based on your vehicle configuration.

2. Restart the engine of your Subaru Ascent.

Automatic door locking/unlocking operation when involved in an accident
When the automatic door locking and unlocking feature is enabled in your Subaru Ascent, the doors will lock automatically while driving. Refer to the section "Automatic door locking/unlocking" for more details.
If the vehicle experiences a significant impact, such as a collision that may deploy the airbags, the system may automatically unlock all doors to facilitate emergency exit. While rear-end collisions typically do not trigger airbag deployment, sufficiently strong impacts may still activate this safety feature.
In such situations, the automatic locking system will be temporarily suspended, leaving the doors in an unlocked state.
After ensuring that it is safe to proceed, perform the following steps to restore the automatic locking/unlocking functionality in your Subaru Ascent.
Models without "keyless access with push-button start system":
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" position.
2. Turn the ignition switch back to the "ON" position.
Models with "keyless access with push-button start system":
1. Set the push-button ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
2. Then switch it back to the "ON" position.
NOTE
Depending on the severity and type of impact, the automatic emergency unlocking function may not always activate.
CAUTION
If any of the following symptoms occur, it may indicate a malfunction in the locking system of your Subaru Ascent.
In such cases, have the system inspected by an authorized SUBARU dealer without delay.
Regular inspection and timely servicing of electronic systems in your Subaru Ascent will help maintain safety features and ensure reliable operation in critical situations.
