CAUTION
Keep metallic objects, magnetic devices, and signal transmitters away from the space between the access key fob and the push-button ignition switch in your Subaru Ascent. Such interference may disrupt communication and prevent proper system operation.
The following features of your Subaru Ascent may stop functioning correctly due to strong external radio interference or a weak battery inside the access key fob.
In these situations, follow the procedures below to restore operation. If the issue is caused by a depleted battery in the access key fob, replace it with a new one as soon as possible to maintain reliable performance of your Subaru Ascent.
Locking and unlocking

Press and hold the release button on the access key fob of your Subaru Ascent to remove the emergency mechanical key.
Use this emergency key to manually lock or unlock the driver’s door, following the instructions described in "Locking and unlocking from the outside".
NOTE
After completing the operation, always reinstall the emergency key back into the access key fob to avoid misplacement.
Switching power status
1. Engage the parking brake securely in your Subaru Ascent.
2. Move the selector lever into the "P" (Park) position.
3. Fully depress the brake pedal.

4. Hold the access key fob with the buttons facing toward you and gently touch the push-button ignition switch with it.
Once communication between the key fob and your Subaru Ascent is established, you will hear an audible chime confirming successful recognition.
At that moment, the ignition mode will change as follows.
5. If the system is inactive, press the push-button ignition switch again without pressing the brake pedal to move it into the "ON" position.
NOTE
If the ignition status does not change after performing these steps correctly, contact an authorized SUBARU dealer for assistance.
Starting engine
