CAUTION

• When washing your Subaru Ascent, be aware that the braking system may become wet. This can temporarily increase stopping distance. To restore normal braking performance, drive at a safe speed and gently apply the brakes to generate heat and dry the components.
• Avoid washing the engine compartment and surrounding areas of your Subaru Ascent. Water intrusion into the air intake system or electrical components may result in engine malfunction or electrical failure.
• Exercise caution when cleaning inner fenders, the underbody, bumpers, and exposed components such as exhaust pipes or exhaust finishers. These areas may have sharp edges that can cause injury.
• Do not use organic solvents when cleaning the outer surface of light assemblies. If a detergent containing such solvents is used, ensure it is thoroughly rinsed off immediately to prevent damage to the lens material.
• Because the Subaru Ascent is equipped with a rear wiper, automatic car wash brushes may become entangled with it, potentially damaging the wiper arm and related components.

  Before entering an automatic car wash, request that the operator avoid contact with the rear wiper or secure the wiper arm against the rear glass using protective tape.

• For Subaru Ascent models equipped with automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers, always turn off the wiper system before washing. If left in the "AUTO" position, the wipers may activate unexpectedly and cause injury.
• Ensure that the rain-sensing wipers are deactivated before washing your Subaru Ascent. Unexpected operation may damage the wiper blades or surrounding components.
• If the climate control system is active during washing, do not set the air inlet to outside air mode.

  This may allow water to enter the cabin through the air intake vents, potentially damaging interior components.

NOTE

• Before using an automatic car wash, confirm that it is compatible with the design and features of your Subaru Ascent.
• The rear view camera lens is protected with a special hard coating to reduce the risk of scratches.

  However, when cleaning the camera lens, avoid direct contact with brushes. Always use a soft cloth and gentle cleaning method to preserve image clarity.

The most effective way to maintain the exterior finish and overall appearance of your Subaru Ascent is through regular and thorough washing. Ideally, wash the vehicle at least once a month to prevent buildup of contaminants such as dirt, road grime, and environmental pollutants.

Use a soft sponge with plenty of clean, lukewarm or cold water to remove dirt. Avoid washing the Subaru Ascent with hot water or under direct sunlight, as this may cause water spots or damage to the paint finish.

Contaminants such as road salt, chemical residues, insects, tar, soot, tree sap, and bird droppings should be removed promptly using a mild, neutral detergent when necessary. Avoid harsh chemicals or strong soaps, as they may degrade the paint and protective coatings. Always rinse off cleaning agents completely before they dry on the surface.

After washing, thoroughly rinse your Subaru Ascent with ample water and dry it using a soft chamois or microfiber cloth to prevent streaks. For cleaning the underbody, inner fenders, and suspension components, wear protective gloves and use a brush to effectively remove accumulated dirt and debris.

Washing the underbody

Road treatments such as salt, deicing chemicals, and gravel are highly corrosive and can significantly accelerate the deterioration of underbody components in your Subaru Ascent, including the exhaust system, brake lines, fuel lines, and suspension elements.

Regularly flush the underbody and inner fender areas with cold or lukewarm water to minimize corrosion and prolong component lifespan.

Mud and sand accumulation underneath the Subaru Ascent can also contribute to corrosion over time.

After driving in off-road, muddy, or sandy conditions, carefully clean the underbody. Pay special attention to suspension and axle components, as these areas tend to collect debris more easily. Avoid using sharp tools to remove hardened dirt, as this may damage protective coatings.

CAUTION

• Take care not to damage brake hoses, sensor wiring, or other sensitive components when cleaning suspension parts of your Subaru Ascent.
• Avoid prolonged spraying of the engine underside, as excessive water exposure may harm electrical components.

Using a warm water washer

• Maintain a minimum distance of 12 in (30 cm) between the washer nozzle and the surface of your Subaru Ascent to prevent damage.
• Avoid concentrating the water jet on a single spot for extended periods.
• If stubborn dirt cannot be removed easily, wash the area manually. High-temperature, high-pressure washers may deform plastic parts, damage trim elements, or allow water to penetrate seals and enter the vehicle interior.
